The axe is part of the spell action
In the June 16 demo discussion, Eastshade Studios directly tells the player to use Chant of the Woodcutters on a dead tree in the farm instead of searching for an axe. This resolves a misleading assumption: wording about an axe does not necessarily mean a standalone item must be purchased or recovered.

The documented sequence is to play that song, then click the appropriate dead garden tree. Check the spell description and the target before looking through shops for another physical tool.
If the tree does not respond
Our recommended checks are to confirm which song you used, confirm that the target is a dead garden tree, and read the feedback for the attempted action. Keep the current objective visible so you can compare its wording with the spell.
A September player in the same thread still reported difficulty. No verified resolution for that later case appears in the discussion. The developer's earlier input guidance is useful, but it is not a guarantee that every tree interaction will succeed in every build.
An actual lost watering can is a different problem
Do not assume the spell answer explains the disappearance of a physical tool. The demo 0.484 notes document a fix for a watering-can soft lock at the player pond. That is a historical fix, not a verified launch item-recovery procedure.
Before trying to recover an item, inspect your inventory and any storage you used. Record whether it was selected, moved, dropped or sold. Those are diagnostic suggestions; this page cannot promise a replacement spawn or recovery command.
Use the correct tool guide
For grass clumps, read scythe controls. For watering, read gardening basics. These have different targets from the woodcutting spell.
This page keeps the original tools topic focused on a developer-supported answer. It does not supply unverified console commands or tell you to replace save data to retrieve an item.
