Separate three different tasks

Learning about a song in a lesson, practicing its notes, and casting its effect in the world are related activities. They are not interchangeable instructions. A request to use magic on garden soil calls for the world interaction, rather than another attempt to improve a practice score.

The official June demo announcement reiterates that the rhythm minigame is optional. The April 0.466 notes also explain that casting does not require stars and add further help in the options. Those are explicit developer statements about the demo; they should not be turned into a requirement to perfect every song.

If practicing feels difficult

Try the music assistance options offered by your installed build before repeating a hard attempt. Read the note prompts visually and choose a short practice goal: recognizing the sequence, then improving timing, then deciding whether you actually want to pursue mastery.

The developer describes improvement as a process across multiple attempts. A launch review also reports a shortcut for mastered songs. Neither source gives a verified score formula for every spell, so this guide does not supply invented thresholds or key sequences.

If a spell does nothing

Our troubleshooting order is:

  1. Re-read the spell description and the active objective. Check whether they name soil, a dead tree, rocks or a different target.
  2. Confirm you are using the spell interaction instead of dragging a physical item out of inventory.
  3. Check your current resources and the on-screen feedback.
  4. Compare the target with the relevant specialist guide. Woodcutting has a developer-confirmed example of this distinction.

This checklist is a way to narrow down the problem, not a guaranteed fix for an unexplained quest lock.

What this page does not establish

We have not verified a complete launch song list, every mastery threshold, or the solution to the unanswered September music-class lock report. If dialogue repeats and your journal cannot advance, record the objective and build version for a bug report instead of assuming more stars will resolve it.

Sources and version scope

The optional rhythm activity and star-free casting explanation come from the April–June 2026 demo notes. The official overview and launch review provide separate context; all linked sources were checked on 1 October 2026. This page does not claim a replay of the launch spell system.
