Choose the task before the upgrade
Open the skill trinket's ability screen and choose a problem to solve first. The official Steam description identifies gardening, trading and special abilities as progression options. Its ability screenshot names Tongue of Frog, which enables amphibian communication.

There is no verified universal best build here. A storage prerequisite is useful when you need a chest; a conversation ability serves a different purpose. Compare the node's description with that immediate objective before spending points.
Supported abilities and progression goals
| Ability or category | Supported purpose | Evidence boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Carpenter level 2 | Craft the reported storage chest recipe | Launch players confirm the chest; check the live recipe requirements |
| Tongue of Frog | Amphibian communication | Named in the official store image; prerequisite path not shown clearly |
| Gardening skills | Help garden work | Official category; individual effects and values not catalogued here |
| Trading skills | Help trade | Official category; no verified percentage table |
| Movement-speed perk | Faster movement later in progression | Prelaunch firsthand review; exact node name and unlock conditions unspecified |
Rows that describe categories are not invented ability names. The official image also shows an available-points display, but a number in a marketing screenshot does not establish the cost of every node.
Example: plan for a garden chest
The launch storage discussion recommends Carpenter level 2, and its original asker subsequently reports building a chest and placing it in the garden. Use that concrete target to plan the upgrade:
- Find the chest recipe and read its required Carpenter level.
- Inspect the Carpenter path in your ability screen. Compare unlocked nodes, prerequisites and available points.
- If a prerequisite is still locked, work toward that displayed requirement before buying an unrelated perk.
- Once the requirement is satisfied, return to the recipe and confirm its materials before crafting.
This is a decision sequence, not a claim that a particular numbered node or a fixed number of purchases reaches Carpenter 2. The storage guide identifies the reported recipe shop and placement checks.
Three ways to compare a new ability
| Your current obstacle | What to inspect in the skill screen |
|---|---|
| A crafting recipe is locked | Its named level requirement and the matching ability path |
| Garden tasks are limiting the session | The garden ability's actual effect, rather than its icon alone |
| You want new conversations or exploration | The special ability's stated interaction and its prerequisites |
Keep an upgrade tied to one of those outcomes. For example, an ability that changes trading does not automatically unlock a crafting recipe. A late-game speed report does not tell you to reserve an exact number of early points for it.
XP, refunds and completion
The developer's 2023 explanation describes activity-based XP and level-based perks. It is historical design context, not a launch XP calculator. We have not established refund rules, a respec vendor, all node costs, or a guaranteed fastest leveling method.
For a completion run, use your current skill screen to record what remains locked, its visible prerequisite, and the activity that will help you progress. The achievement checklist includes the goal covering the entire ability set. That goal confirms a completion target; it does not prove points can always be refunded.
