Start with the first recipe
The 9Puz opening guide and an independent Japanese player's October 1 potion notes agree on the opening combination: one twig and two grass pieces. The English guide calls the potion Potion of Hardiness; the Japanese notes use its localized label. Compare the ingredient icons and counts in your own recipe panel before beginning.

| Ingredient | Reported count for one recipe |
|---|---|
| Twig | 1 |
| Grass pieces / cut grass | 2 |
This is a cross-checked opening example, not a complete recipe catalogue or a guarantee about every future patch. The notes do not establish the required practice score.
A worked practice attempt
A September 30 Phenixx Gaming reviewer describes a timed exercise in which you aim ingredients into several cauldrons and earn points through correct repeated recipe completions. Too much of an ingredient makes that cauldron unavailable while it empties and refills.
For the opening combination, our suggested approach is:
- Pick a cauldron whose visible contents you can follow.
- Match the displayed twig and grass counts. Do not add another ingredient just because that cauldron is closest to the cursor.
- Once the required combination is complete, watch its result and move your attention to another usable cauldron.
- If you overfill one, work with a different available cauldron while the spoiled attempt resets.
- At the score screen, identify whether the problem was missed aiming, excess ingredients, or too few completed recipes. Change one of those on the next attempt.
Those steps are advice derived from the reviewed rules, not a claim that an optimal score route has been tested here. The recipe book and current on-screen counters take priority over a remembered sequence.
Practice, mastery and a bottle are different goals
The GosuGamers review describes practice developing recipe mastery and later enabling brewing. The opening walkthrough labels the menu actions Practice and Brew: Practice enters the exercise; Brew makes the carried potion. Those exact labels are attributed to that walkthrough, rather than an independently tested menu by this site.
| Your objective | What to check |
|---|---|
| Learn the recipe | Complete the lesson and watch its practice feedback |
| Deliver a potion | Check that the requested bottle exists in inventory |
| Deliver a specified quality | Compare the bottle's quality with the quest wording |
| Improve a score | Return to that recipe's practice result and target the weak part |
Finishing an exercise and having a deliverable item are separate checks. Inspect your inventory after brewing before returning to a character requesting a potion.
Legendary score versus ordinary brewing
Steam has separate goals for one legendary result and legendary results across the potion set. Our recommended progression is one useful recipe, a carried bottle when needed, and then a higher score. See the full achievement checklist to track the broader goal.
The Phenixx reviewer says the minigames can be retried without penalty. That statement does not prove every mode uses no inventory ingredients. We have no independently verified legendary-score thresholds, side-bowl penalties or ability-score bonus table to publish.
A class that will not progress
Demo 0.465 fixed early potion-classroom entry and a lock related to putting down the cauldron. That historical patch is not a current reset procedure. If a lesson fails, keep the exact objective and the last cauldron interaction in your report; avoid guessing a console fix.
