The Pack Owl and the mountain owl
The original owl questioner could tame other creatures but could not offer a toadstool to the owl in the mountains. They later answered their own question: the tameable Pack Owl was in Nocturne Forest, beyond the Cave of Questions.
Use that as a reported location clue, rather than repeatedly trying the same mountain owl. The discussion does not establish every access prerequisite, an exact map coordinate, or a numerical storage capacity for the pet. For general item space, read inventory and storage.
Pet missing after you moved its habitat?
The official Version 1.03 notes identify a specific bug: a pet could fail to arrive if its habitat was moved after offering the Gilded Toadstool but before the pet arrived. The fix says pets affected by this case should arrive the next day.
Check your installed version and whether your sequence matches that habitat-move case. This is a targeted official fix, not a promise that every missing pet has the same cause or that all adoptions use a universal next-day schedule.

The original owl discussion contains conflicting recollections of quest rewards. A later reply corrects an earlier claim about the stolen-tools quest. We therefore do not turn those replies into a guaranteed reward list or a complete toadstool location catalogue.
Follow the reward descriptions in your own journal and dialogue, and keep a toadstool available for the creature you want. This page verifies the offering report and the documented arrival bug, without inventing a farming route or drop rate.
